Model of a 30.5 cm mortar System Skoda, from the Austro-Hungarian Army.
This is a fantastic display model of the famous Austro-Hungarian M1911/16 305mm siege howitzer gun. This highly detailed and moving model is meticulously crafted and mounted on a single large piece of red marble. The lower edge is polished smooth, transitioning upward into a rough texture that mimics a mountain ridge. The gun and carriage are mounted on top and are made of multiple painted base metal parts, either brass or bronze. The gun cam can be moved up and down by hand, and the gun can rotate 360 degrees. The back of the marble base has a recessed panel for a plaque, but this has been removed. This was clearly a special display piece, likely commissioned by Skoda Works and given only to very important individuals, high-ranking military personnel, and political figures. It is on display at the Technicke Museum (Museum of Science and Technology) in Vienna, Austria.
The M1911/16 has a long and storied history. Only 79 were made, and they saw service in both World War I and World War II.
This is a beautiful display model and almost unique in its kind which is rarely offered for sale.
Height with cannon raised 26cm, 32cm long and 12cm wide.
It weighs 9150 grams 9.2 kilos.
The top section can be removed and will be shipped as is to prevent damage. The model has signs of age, such as damaged marble and missing or loose small parts, but it is certainly a rare model.
Packed together 11 kilos.
